Dr. Chamika H. Senanayake is a Board-Certified Specialist in Health Informatics at the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, uniquely bridging the disciplines of clinical medicine, health informatics, and data science. He holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Health Informatics from the University of Colombo, where he graduated as a Gold Medalist , and earned his MBBS from Tianjin Medical University. His advanced academic background is further strengthened by a specialized Fellowship in Digital Health at the Clinical Informatics Research Unit of the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, positioning him at the forefront of Sri Lanka’s digital health transformation.
Beyond his clinical and informatics foundation, Dr. Senanayake possesses advanced technical competencies in Data Science , supported by specialized certifications from Johns Hopkins University covering Machine Learning, Regression Models, and R Programming. A thought leader in the governance of artificial intelligence, he actively serves as a key resource person on the application and ethical lens of AI in healthcare for the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS). His deep technical literacy allows him to seamlessly translate complex AI algorithms into strategic foresight for national health data systems.
On the global stage, Dr. Senanayake is a recognized leader driving sustainable, tech-enabled healthcare delivery. He serves as the Director of Digital Services for the Commonwealth Centre for Digital Health and is a core contributor to the Global Health Data Governance Framework as a consultant for the Health Data Collaborative. Locally, he contributes as the Honorary Treasurer of the Health Informatics Society of Sri Lanka (HISSL). Through his commitment to improving system integration, operational efficiency, and data ethics, he continues to shape the future of healthcare both nationally and internationally.
