eCounselling is a mobile application comprising of a series of animated videos that educates the masses about key aspects related to Tuberculosis (TB) management, prevention and cure.  TB treatment lasts for as long as 6 months. eCounselling attempts to fill the gap in providing correct information about the disease to patients and their families . It comprises of a total of 12 animated videos that are voice free with minimal text. 9  videos are shown to the patient before treatment enrolment. These 9 videos cover important topics like treatment duration, how to take medicines, importance of nutrition, preventive measures to be taken by family, how the TB spreads, etc. After each video, the Counsellor interacts with the patient to confirm the message received and resolve queries. Given the animated nature of the videos, the patient and any other family member remains fully engaged during the counselling session.

More than 92% of people in Bangladesh are deprived from any sort of mental health care due to severe scarcity and inappropriate distribution of mental health professionals, widespread stigma and geographical barriers. To solve this long-standing problem in Bangladesh and other LMICs we launched “MonerDaktar”- an online mental health platform (website and mobile application) that gives people the opportunity to connect with their preferred psychiatrist and psychologist at their convenient time from any part of the country. Monerdaktar also provides tools for self-assessment, audiovisual resources and integration of referral systems. Currently, 112 professionals are serving people everyday using this platform.

We have developed an adaptive Integrated Hospital Management platform (AIHMP), a series of next generation hospital management systems with potential of handling infectious disease outbreaks, monitor health systems, and monitoring of patients (TB, infectious diseases, cancer, etc. The system has been improved and now dubbed NextGenCoviAI, an integrated digital National COVID-19 Health Information Management Platform. This can be used by the:
1. Ministry of Health to: (i) register all the screening units (health centers) and provide a platform for online collaboration, (ii) view patients at each health center, (iii) manage human resource, (iv) manage resource allocation and demand forecasting based on statics, and (v) provide instant communication to public:

Tuberculosis remains a major public health problem in Malawi. The TB EHR was built based on protocols which ensure that patients are treated according to the TB guidelines, as there are no shortcuts when using the system. The system has drastically reduced the amount of time taken to compile reports which are used by the Malawi Ministry of Health for decision making compared to the manual way of compiling the reports. The system provides a continuum of care in that it is easy to retrieve patient history information for decision making by the clinician/doctor. The system has tools that make it easy to identify patients who need to be followed up according to the TB protocol. Collection of presumptive cases helps to ensure that hotspots are identified which in turn prevents the spread of TB. The system is also integrated with an environmentally friendly hybrid solar backup system.

In many African countries, navigating the health system during pregnancy brings unique worries. Services may be unavailable/inadequate and prenatal care may involve unexpected, unpayable costs. Every year, roughly 300,000 women die from preventable pregnancy complications(1), with almost 70% in sub-Saharan Africa; region with the highest maternal mortality ratio(2). Yet, with adherence to clinical guidelines and well-documented interventions (timely antenatal appointments, skilled delivery, etc.), these statistics can remarkably improve.

The T4MCH is an innovative project which uses ICT tools to increase pregnant women, new mothers and their partners access to maternal and child health information (M&CH) to promote safe delivery and survival of new borns. It delivers mobile voice messages in local languages and SMS in English for free to beneficiaries at a distance. The use of local of languages increases beneficiaries understanding of M&CH information. To promote e-learning, health staff are trained to use ICT tools to package, design and deliver M&CH information to women and their families using audio visual content at the community level and at health facilities in Knowledge Sharing Sessions. In addition, the projects’ gender mainstreaming activities such as the Father to Father Groups and the Mother’s Story influences men’s socio-cultural beliefs to participate in issues of M&CH and they empower young adolescent pregnant girls in decision making about their reproductive health.

To prevent 10 million deaths per year globally, it is critical to act now to improve the appropriate use of antimicrobials; one of the recognised and evidenced based measures to reduce drug resistant infections [1]. The Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS)* app is an antimicrobial prescribing app to improve antimicrobial prescribing and stewardship practices among health professionals in Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. The app provides for the first-time in the four countries easy access to infection management resources to improve appropriate use of antimicrobials in line with national and international guidelines. The resources included: WHO essential medicines list, surveillance tools, antimicrobial stewardship training, Infection Prevention and Control resources, and the Standard Treatment Guidelines for each country [2].

Despite the availability of free routine immunizations in most developing countries, about 30% of children who receive their first vaccine fail to complete the full course of immunizations. In resource-constrained settings, without the technology to model, visualize, and predict risk patterns, overburdened vaccinators are unable to identify target children at the highest risk of dropping out or delaying vaccines, leading to persistently high default rates. We have designed an innovative Predictive Analytics (PA) algorithm that leverages artificial intelligence and uses mathematical and computational statistical modeling, machine learning, and multidimensional data mining to accurately identify children at high risk of defaulting using socio-demographic predictors including child’s gender, age group, language, and enrollment vaccine and timeliness. By leveraging the power of big data and utilizing PA, we can facilitate vaccinators to correctly identify potential defaulters, deploy evidence-based targeted interventions and improve service delivery.

Forced migration is increasing around the world due to humanitarian conflicts and climate crisis. The number of people displaced is anticipated to increase to 200 million by 2050, from an already high number of 60 million. Forcible displacement of refugees is associated with increased health risks among moving populations, as lack of reliable health records, language barriers, and limited knowledge about different healthcare services increase vulnerability to diseases.

HERA is a mobile health (mHealth) open-source platform created to improve health outcomes for refugee populations by increasing uptake of preventive health services, specifically antenatal visits and childhood immunizations. It is uniquely designed to meet demand-side barriers that refugees encounter in host country healthcare access, and decrease disproportionately poor outcomes related to vaccine preventable diseases and maternal health. The HERA App provides healthcare navigation, health education, and behavioral nudges such as automated reminders to increase timely immunization or pregnancy related doctor visits.

Stringent rules and guidelines specifying the number, timing, and spacing of doses of each vaccine based on the child’s age and the doses already received, coupled with poor FHW training results in incomplete and inaccurate manually constructed schedules. The problem is exacerbated by the introduction of new vaccines which adds further complexity and increases chances of erroneous vaccine administration and missed opportunities for immunization (MOIs).  We have designed an electronic Decision Support System Application Programming Interface (DSS-API) to enable vaccinators to administer the right vaccines at the right time and reduce MOIs. DSS-API leverages embedded logic and process algorithms to automatically construct WHO recommended routine and catch-up vaccine schedule for a child. The algorithm takes into account all the associated parameters such as the number, timings and spacing of each vaccine dose to construct individual vaccine schedules depending on child’s vaccination history and date of birth and facilitates FHWs in accurate administration of vaccine doses according to the recommended schedule.

The main aim of this project is to determine the effectiveness and sustainability of multi-faceted  health promotion programs with the view to evaluate and contribute evidence for promoting long-lasting positive changes amongst teachers working in selected primary schools in disadvantaged settings in a developing country. KaziHealth is designed as a series of consecutive steps that include an individual risk assessment followed by the development of an individualized health risk profile, two face-to-face lifestyle coaching sessions to set specific goals and aid in the implementation, monitoring progress and motivation through the KaziHealth mobile phone application and, finally, evaluation of goal achievement. Additionally, the teachers will have the opportunity to participate in an online course on self-assessment of personal health to educate themselves on health and wellness education in schools in South Africa.

The National STD/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP), Ministry of Health, is responsible for control and prevention of STDs HIV in Sri Lanka.
To overcome the many problems of using manual records for clinical data, the Electronic Information Management System (EIMS) was introduced gradually starting in 2018, to the NSACP by the Strategic information Unit (SIM Unit) of NSACP. The central database is stored on the SLT Cloud and accessed country-wide through the Web. To overcome internet interruptions, a local server has been established which sync with the cloud server.
Available modules: Registration/queue management, Consultation (patient interview, investigations and prescribing). Bleeding/Injection room (collection of samples and outpatient procedures), Counseling, defaulter and contact tracing, Pharmacy (issuing drugs and stock-management) and Laboratory (handling samples, recording findings and reporting), Epidemiology (processing epidemiological data) and Reporting (generating table for analyzing data and displaying it on large-screen dashboards).

This information system was designed to support the operations of the proposed Inbound Health Assessment Unit, which is positioned under the Immigrant Health Unit of the Ministry of health, Sri Lanka. As discussed in the WHO digital health Target Product Profiles (TPPs), collecting test results electronically in real time reduces the time for the patient to the care access, increases the accuracy of the collected information and improves the health care management at all levels.
The DataToCare software meets many requirements from some of the TPPs. It connects diagnostics assays, notifies in real time the patients and physicians about the results availability and provides the stakeholders with visual patient medical record information as well as cohort information for a given region or country.
Our project has been triggered by a request from the ERS which was aligned on the TPPs framework provided by the WHO. We have been requested to enhance our DataToCare software by developing an additional tuberculosis (TB) test results capture in addition to the already existing automated one for the Xpert MTB/RIF.
To reach the objective, we have developed a front end to collect manually Drug Sensitivity Test (DST) results capture that manually collect MGIT and proportion (LJ) test results. Due to the demand from the field, we also developed, for free, in parallel to this project, a manual capture of culture test results (also for the MGIT and the proportion (LJ) tests) and a patient medical record.

A pilot run was planned to test the software new features in DRC. Due to political instability and to ensure the project completion in due time, the trials and testing have been transferred to the National Reference Laboratory of Kigali, Rwanda, at the end of October 2016.

KEYAR is an affordable, easy to use and wearable intra-partum FHR & contraction monitoring device for low resource healthcare settings. The reusable patch sticks onto the mother's belly to read up contractions and FHR. The device monitors both the parameters, analyzes the pattern and further gives color coded/sound alert if fetus is in distress. The device also displays fetal heart rate and uterine contraction in an easy format which is interpretable by a low skilled health worker. KEYAR communicates with our mobile application DAKSH (24,000 INR) which is an intrapartum monitoring mobile application for automated partograph generation. DAKSH allows the staff nurse to register and enter vital signs of a pregnant woman. It reminds the staff nurse to monitor the labor vitals, as per the standard WHO intrapartum protocol. It also generates alerts in case of complications, based on an in-built algorithm.

"Pubudu” was developed for screening and intervention of dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia supporting local languages. Target audience of application are school children between age 6 to 8. The screening of dyslexia, letter dysgraphia, numeric dysgraphia and dyscalculia was carried out using machine learning techniques. Intervention techniques are implemented using gamified environments. Ultimate goal of our application is to enhance reading, writing and mathematical skills of differently abled children.

Despite relative success of the Malawi immunization program, Save the Children in collaboration with the Expanded Programme of Immunisation (EPI) Unit and Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) Unit of the Ministry of Health, identified low visibility of EPI logistics data and a lack of consistent procedures for reporting and resupplying EPI products. This situation often leads to interrupted vaccination services in some parts of the country and eventually leads to poor performances of the EPI system. Responding to challenges, Ministry of Health with support from Save the Children, piloted EPI cStock intervention addressed these challenges in Neno and Thyolo (Southern Malawi)
cStock is an SMS-based, open-source, web-accessible logistics management information system for all health center level EPI products The system automatically calculates the resupply needs and consumption and that has contributed towards improved visibility and availability of EPI products at different level hence strengthening supply chain management system.

Be Smart is a mobile application created mainly for adolescents and young people. It a user friendly app which comes in all three languages of Sri Lanka, which are Sinhala, Tamil and English. This addresses common health issues faced by the young people in simple terms that can be understood by them. Non Communicable Diseases, HIV/AIDS/STD's , Mental Health Issues and Sexual Abuse through cyber exploitation are the main areas focused. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) East and Southern Africa Regional Office, in collaboration with the Ford Foundation and Praekelt Foundation created a platform where youth can access age-appropriate and accurate SRHR information. TuneMe.org, developed as a part of the Safeguard Young People Programme  (SYP), is a web-based platform that can be accessed through java-enabled devices and simple mobile phones. The digital health platform that has 4 core functions:
(i) A low cost digital microscope slide scanner to produce quick, reliable and high-resolution digital pap-smear images. The microscope is fully automated and produces high quality images comparable to those obtained using commercial microscopes. This has been 3D printed and costs less than 500 USD as opposed to the commercial microscopes that cost over 1,500 USD.
(ii) Cervical cancer risk factors evaluation engine to automatically assess the likelihood of contacting cervical cancer given the risk factors.
(iii) An automated pap-smear analysis tool for diagnosis and classification of cervical cancer from pap-smear images, and
(iv) An AI empowered digital health cervical cancer patient’s record management platform. This is to specifically store patient’s pap-smear images and text information for subsequent comparison and prediction, patient schedule reminder, telemedicine support with collaboration among cytopathologists all over the country via the connected integrated platform and providing an anonymous dataset to universities for research.

Firstly, we enable end to end virtual and augmented reality consultation, distribution and implementation to help support industry leaders understand and adopt immersive technologies. Secondly, we deliver nursing education through face to face and online delivery. Always pushing the limits with what is possible with a skilled team, progressive ideology and strong world leading partners.

Deconstructing barriers to access innovation, global collaboration and remote working, are pillars of the vision we hold. Education within healthcare has changed and we are now immersed in a new reality.

HIVE Learning Platform

HIVE is a web-based assistive learning platform for children with Down Syndrome. HIVE provides an excellent opportunity for improving their learning skills including math, language, everyday skills, social skills, and has been able to improve motor skills using the hardware component with the system. Also, face recognition can keep the user's attention with the system, thereby suggesting and referring their most interesting contents according to the user's emotion. Finally, the Hive can visualize cognitive skill development by analyzing the data. 50 children have tested and shown successful results which means "Hive" with all these features is very productive.

sTrack, giving every school a digital presence.

sTrack makes timely information about schools available to all citizens in an efficient and cost effective manner. The ministry of Education and Sports uploads all registered schools’ information on a web based system and citizens can access them any time and get all the details about a particular school (registration status, performance, resources, communication). It ensures online accessibility of all schools and opportunities for community participation in a friendly, transparent and efficient manner. It provides citizens the means to report and comment on anything which affects them about these schools in their physical environment and how schools’ projects are implemented in their areas. District Education Officers use this tool to efficiently monitor, track and plan for all the schools in their districts with a direct communication channel with the ministry of Education. The platform empowers each school to activate its digital ID, and enable it to engage the public. Our COVID-19 response enables each school to upload reading materials for their students.

The FoodGoodBox app enables the user to not only reduce calories but also to eat Food in the healthy recommended proportions by current guidelines including Dietary Guidelines for Americans and helps tackle obesity. It follows the MyPlate concept where the recommendation is to eat one’s meal with half the plate with vegetables/ fruit, quarter with meat/ protein and quarter with carbohydrate rich food. It was initially built as an adjuvant to the Portion and Calorie Control Lunchbox which is an innovative product with the patent pending for it. (See link for patent) This food container too is designed in such a way that the proportions can be maintained while the food consumed per meal can be measured in cup volumes (240ml). Cup volumes are standard serving sizes and nutrients in different food for that volume is given in data bases, making it easy to calculate the nutrient intakes.

Castle Street Hospital for Women (CSHW) is the premier maternity hospital in Sri Lanka with nearly 12000 Caesarean sections (CS) per year. The CS rate of the hospital in 2019 was 33.8%. Out of that 6% belongs to Category 1 CS (needs immediate delivery). The decision to delivery interval (DDI) for category 1 CS as recommended by NICE Guidelines is 30 minutes. However, this was 38 minutes(Mean DDI) in CSHW. It was recognized that bad neonatal outcomes for category I CS are strongly associated with prolonged DDI and delay in attending paediatrics house officers, both due to the existing traditional communication system over the phone. So the key areas of delay are recognized as the ward, labor room, operation theatre, blood bank and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit(NICU). An electronic emergency alert system was proposed to reduce message circulating time and to deliver real time reliable information.

The Hemoglobin concentration in human blood is an important substance to health condition determination. With the results which are obtained from Hemoglobin test, a condition which is called as Anemia (a low level of Hemoglobin) can be revealed. Traditionally the Hemoglobin test is done using blood samples which are taken using needles. The non-invasive Hemoglobin measurement system, introduced this implementation and ability to check the hemoglobin concentration in the human blood. The images of the finger tip of the different hemoglobin level patients which is taken using a camera is used to develop the neural network based algorithm. The pre mentioned algorithm is used in the developed non-invasive device to display the Hemoglobin level. Before doing the above procedure, an account is created in the mobile app and a questionnaire is given to answer by the patient. Finally both the results which are obtained from the mobile app and the device are run through a machine learning algorithm to get the final output. According to the final result patient would be able to detect anemia at an early stage.

Despite having one of the best economies on the continent, South Africa still sees disproportionately high maternal and infant mortality. In 2014 the South African National Department of Health launched MomConnect, its flagship maternal health programme for which Praekelt.org is a key design and technology partner. Through MomConnect, pregnant women and new mothers can receive free messaging on maternal health via SMS or WhatsApp. The platform also provides access to a text-based helpdesk for queries. Since 2014, 3 million users have registered in over 95% of public health facilities and the platform services 1 million active users monthly.

The project solves mainly the interoperability issues on a country level in Malta. The government has decided to build a central data repository for all Malta citizens, where they use a vendor neutral format (openEHR) for storing the data, and all of the vendors/systems have to share the data through that platform. This way the data will always "outlive" the application, being accessible to hospitals and patients anytime, anyplace. It is also first public cloud implementation of such approach.

Acne affects 85% of individuals between the ages of 12-25 years of age, and over 90% of the population at some point in their life. More than 95% of them report feeling depressed because of their acne; over 60% feel overlooked by their healthcare system. A young, tech-driven population, desperately searching for solutions online are susceptible to inaccurate, and oftentimes harmful, suggestions that have no correlation to their own health.

eTreat Acne is a mobile application that uses machine learning and AI to automatically identify facial regions with inflammatory acne and skin blemishes, such as hyperpigmentation, scarring, melasma and many others in seconds, using only the smartphone camera. It then crafts a personalized skincare routine consisting of multiple products for the user that are discreetly delivered to them. Continuous health education and advice from experts are provided through the app to ensure users remain engaged and heal effectively.

Jindagi is a mobile app for improving the health of PLHIVs (People Living with HIV) available at no cost to the patients.

PLHIV on medication can live a healthy life and with a normal life expectancy. However, stigma and poor diagnosis rates continue to make HIV a public health issue claiming more 32 million lives. Patients who are not diagnosed early or do not adhere to the medication not only increase their health risks but also lead to increased risk of HIV transmission.

Jindagi uses gamified rich media, including quizzes and videos/infographics to provide relevant information to improve patient behaviour on medication adherence.

By appropriate counselling and treatment advice, Jindagi ensures that patients continue to engage with their doctors. Using the app provides easy access to information without the social stigma.
